Dalam percakapan sehari-hari, sebuah permintaan ijin biasanya dijawab dengan can, cannot, atau can’t, daripada menggunakan may atau may not, walaupun pertanyaannya memakai may.
Contoh Dialog:
“May I go to the mall tonight?”
“No, you can’t/cannot go.” OR “Yes, you can go.”
